As you all probably know or have gathered by various social media posts… I’M ENGAGED! I’ve dreamt about this moment forever, and it’s actually happened. I am going to marry the man of my dreams!
So I bet you’re all wondering, how and where?! We were actually on a family holiday in Spain, on a yacht in the middle of the Mediterranea sea and it was utterly perfect.
The lead up to the boat trip wasn’t as fairytale as it all sounds. It was a sweltering hot day and the taxi driver had dropped us off at the wrong marina, resulting in us having to walk what felt like a million miles away to the right marina! Eventually, we found our yacht, got settled, got the fizz open and got sailing.
I remember the sea breeze cooling me down as we got further out to sea and begging my Mam to take the perfect insta snap of me, and that’s how it all unfolded really. Myself and my partner, Jorden (now fiance!) were posing for a photo when suddenly ‘our’ song started playing and my baby niece was being held next to my Mam, the camerawoman, with a babygrow on that, said “Aunty Alice, will you marry Uncle Jorden?” In complete disbelief of what I was reading, I turned to Jorden and he was on one knee. I can’t even begin to describe how amazing the rest of the day’s events were. The day, 20th July 2019, will stay in my heart forever.
I think when you know, you know. I met Jorden at just the right time in my life. It was the sort of love that just comes out of nowhere and you don’t expect it. I knew straight away Jorden was special to me and I realised he was the one when being with him just felt like home inside. We just get each other.
It’s been 8 weeks since we got engaged and I don’t think I’ll get over it.
Maybe, when we’ve booked the wedding… We’ve done A LOT of celebrating, however, we celebrated in style at Seaham Hall a few weeks ago and that was something to remember.
We’ve been partying with close friends and family since we came home, however, we both decided it was time to do some celebrating just us, recharge our batteries and Seaham Hall was the perfect place for a couples getaway.
If you’re a reader of my adventures you’ll remember when I had an evening of decadent dining at The Dining Room restaurant back in June. Since then, I’ve not stopped thinking about the place!
We arrived at The Serenity Spa on a sunny Sunday morning for a day of relaxation and fun. The Serenity Spa is a tranquil, calming and inspiring space which engages the senses and nurtures the mind, body and soul. It’s one of my favourite spas in the North East!
We slipped into our robes and headed to the tranquillity room for our Dual Ishga 60 minute Massage with Sarah and Zara, who were looking after us. The Ishga massage is a medium-pressure massage combining a powerfully detoxing seaweed body oil with lemongrass, juniper and rose geranium. The treatment is designed to be invigorating but is equally relaxing with a focus on removing tension to re-energise the body. The seaweed body oil regenerates, firms and tones the skin and is particularly used for eliminating toxins.
This massage was a little bit different from the usual, the treatment was held outside. We were really optimistic about having the treatment outside because the weather was absolutely beautiful! And, you know what, it was fantastic. It genuinely took us both away from our surroundings, I felt like I was abroad with the trees rustling in the background, birds tweeting and the sun beating down on us. The massage itself was superb. Since I’ve been training for the Great North Run I was well overdue a massage and this one really hit the spot. After, we felt like a new man and woman. We also received an Ishga Couples Self-care Kits which I thought was a lovely touch.
We headed back to the tranquillity room for some downtime, complimented with refreshing fruit sorbet and cucumber water. I was feeling very zen by this point.
Next, it was lunchtime and we had a Tapas Dining experience date in the Ozone with a glass of champagne. The Ozone offers Pan-Asian cuisine in a fabulous setting. It’s a relaxed and informal restaurant which is located in the Serenity Spa; perfect for those who want to enjoy authentic, exciting food in an equally extravagant location or if you fancy a laid-back lunch in your robes after relaxing in the spa.
The Tapas Dining experience is a new offering to the Ozone and hasn’t formally been announced as of yet, but I can’t wait for it to be on the menu! It was just divine, all of it. Every dish.
The experience began with Tempura vegetables and Thai Style Chicken Satays which were delicious. The Satays being my favourite as the spicy peanut sauce is to die for. Next came vegetable spring rolls and duck pancakes. The duck pancakes were scrumptious, me and Jorden both always order duck when we have Thai food so were practically fighting over them. Lastly on the savoury side came a beef Thai green curry and a sweet and sour chicken curry. We never usually choose beef with Thai green curry but it was beautiful, really zesty and tangy and worked so well together. And then came a special extra touch for the team at Seaham Hall, our deserts served on a mirror that said ‘Congratulations’, how thoughtful is that?!
The food was seriously 5 star, and totally faultless. It’s worth me mentioning that the staff were so lovely too in the Ozone and make you feel at home instantly.
The spa was calling us so we headed to the outdoor hot tubs firstly to enjoy the outdoors and the weather. The Serenity Spa boasts:
- 20-metre pool with massage stations
- Hammam with snail showers and Jacuzzi
- Asian herbal sanarium
- Salt sauna
- Indian steam room with amethyst crystal
- Outdoor hot tubs
- Hydrotherapy pool
- Ice fountain
- Roof terrace
- Plunge pools
- Spacious aerobic studio
- State of the art fitness suite
- Zen Garden with relaxation beds and infinity hydrotherapy pool with jets
We couldn’t wait to try the brand new Zen Garden after hearing so much about the infinity pool and it didn’t disappoint! It’s wonderful, especially in the weather we had.
We explored all around the spa and just totally chilled out. And then it was sadly time to go home. We had such a wonderful day, celebrating our news and appreciating each other. It’s hard not to get wrapped up in celebrations and not just unwind with one another. I’d seriously recommend any couple heading to Seaham Hall for a luxurious getaway like me and Jorden. We can’t wait to go back!
