Think bingo’s just for your Grandparents? Think again. Bingo has been revolutionised for us Millennials by the legendary Bongos Bingo, created by THE Jonny Bingo.
Where have I been I please and WHY was I last one to hear about the legendary Bongos Bingo craze?! I’ve been lucky enough to be invited along to nexts weeks Halloween Bongos Bingo at the Boiler Shop in Newcastle, therefore, I’m not missing out on the fun! I thought I’d do a ‘preview’ style post to prepare you for what’s coming next week on Zest Of Alice!
I bet you’re all thinking what even is Bongo Bingo right? Well, I was a few weeks ago too and now I know all about I can’t wait to share it with you all! It’s basically a chaotic and ironic version of the game complete with rave intervals, dance-offs and rubbish prizes – although there are big cash jackpots to be won too (hope I win!).
In just two and a half years the phenomenal Bongo’s Bingo has spread across the four corners of the country, bringing riotous magic and mayhem everywhere it travels. Pretty impressive if you ask me! The shows have shown a cultural shift in the spectrum of nightlife across the UK, one which has seen people across a wildly diverse demographic flocking to Bongo’s Bingo not just for a night of incredible fun, singalongs and false calls, but something much more – for escapism, for nostalgia, for dancing on tables, for an experiential adventure, and also yes, for the chance to win a pink unicorn amongst many other prizes which I’m told will be available on the night… very exciting.
Bongo’s Bingo has been taking place in many main cities across the UK, with sold out shows at Liverpool, Manchester and Leeds, to London, Birmingham and Newcastle, to Preston, Blackpool and Sheffield. This summer, they have launched sold out residencies in Dubai, Ibiza, and two tours across Australia whose shows sold out in record-breaking time. It must be good then! The creators are already planning for new locations across Europe, including Amsterdam and Paris, this really has gone viral! It’s hard to capture the unique mix of everything that happens at Bongo’s Bingo – it’s partly a show, partly a rave, partly a dance-off and very much an amazing night of bingo as its frantically beating heart. It’s true that Bongo’s Bingo has to be seen to be believed – the show mixes the traditional elements of bingo with dance-offs, rave intervals, plenty of heckling, audience participation, countless hands-in-the-air anthems and of course the chance to win prizes too, from Henry Hoovers, boxes of Coco Pops and life-size cardboard!
When researching the event, the creators have said they’ve found it really hard to capture the unique mix of everything that happens at Bongo’s Bingo – it’s partly a show, partly a rave, partly a dance-off and very eccentric night of bingo as its frantically beating heart. It’s been that popular up North they’ve added more dates in November for Newcastle which are Saturday 4th, Wednesday 15th and Thursday 23rd November… get your tickets before they go! I’m so excited for this now.
