I’m not even sure how or where to start with this review. Bongo’s Bingos is an utterly unexplainable experience. Amazing, crazy, a little bit bizarre, wonderful, fun AND electric are all words that come to mind when I think about my visit to Bongo’s.
So a few weeks ago you may have read my ‘preview’ post of Bongo’s Bingo, (if you didn’t you can catch up here), and I thought I’d put together a post on my honest thoughts on the actual show and reasons why YOU need to try it, at least once, in your lifetime.
I had read that this game of bingo is unlike any other ordinary game before going along but y’know, I kinda’ just took other peoples reviews and videos online, with a pinch of salt. I don’t know what I was expecting it to be like, but the real thing is just unimaginably brilliant. There’s nothing I can possibly say to prepare you for the experience on the night!
I was fortunate enough to grab six tickets to Bongo’s Bingo when it came to Sunderland’s Rainton Meadow Arena with special guest Kelis. Myself and a few pals from work decided we’d have a team night out and see what all the fuss was about. I was the youngest out of the group and probably the most raring, the rest of my team were a bit apprehensive wondering if they’d be ‘too old’ for this sort of thing and oh, how wrong they were.
We arrived at the arena around 6:30ish, as we were told the ques can get very busy. We grabbed a few drinks and got seated on our benches. In good spirits the arena gradually got full and it was time to bingo! The atmosphere was bouncing, the drinks were flowing and the tunes were banging.
Around 8ish, the games began! The aim of the game is very much the same as any old game of bingo, there are prizes and cash to be won however the prizes aren’t traditional shall we say and in between each game is when it all starts to get a bit, Pete Tong.
The bingo caller and his beautiful assistants (see photo) have the crowd very much in their hands throughout the evening, they are so charismatic you can’t help but join in their chaotic games! To be won throughout the evening was a range of wacky prizes from Coco Pops, Apple Sourz, a Henry Hoover, a space hopper and life-size cutouts of Westlife. There was some big money to be won too, ranging from £100 to a trip to Ibiza. Unfortunately, none of us won but it was good fun watching a handful of the crowd get lucky.
After two raving hours, bingo was then finished and Kelis graced the stage for an unforgettable performance of her famous song, Milkshake! She was fantastic live and managed to keep up with crowd’s upbeat rhythm. She’s not lost it that’s for sure!
I’d 100% recommend Bongo’s Bingo to everyone, all ages, whatever your taste in music, Bongo’s Bingo is for everyone. We couldn’t stop talking about it for days at work, laughing to ourselves at what we’d witnessed! It’s hands down one of the best nights out I’ve ever had. Bongo’s Bingo is currently travelling all over the UK, so make sure when it comes to your town you get involved with fun!
