I’ve been a fan of Friends for as long as I can remember, I even had the whole 10 seasons on VIDEO! Yes, you read that right, VIDEO! Remeber life before Netflix?!
As a teen, I was completely obsessed. I literally remember coming home from school and watching it, and then even binge watching it from the beginning over the summer holidays. Remember when Friends used to be on E4 too? Oh those were the days!
Friends just NEVER gets boring, no matter how many times you watch it. Whenever I watch an episode, it’s like the first time I’ve seen it all over again. I just never get sick of it.
Each and everyone one of the characters have been my favourite character at some point but Monica remains my favourite to this day. Her control freak ways remind me of myself. I admire her independence and positive attitude, I almost feel like I know her inside out yet she’s just a fictional character. It makes me so sad that we never got to know whether Rachel and Ross worked out and if they got married, I mean she got off the plane so surely?!
Following last year’s sell-out tour, global award-winning Comedy Central UK’s FriendsFest returned this summer for a 12-week tour of the UK, stopping in 6 fantastic locations including Glasgow, Manchester, Bristol, Brighton, London and NEWCASTLE!
I was fortunate enough to be invited down by Comedy Central to experience FriendsFest along with my friend! I jumped at the chance to get behind the scenes access as well as explore the sets. FriendsFest was being held at Castle Farm Fields in Newcastle so I headed over on a sunny Thursday evening to fangirl for a few hours.
Upon arrival, all you can hear is the iconic theme tune ‘I’ll Be There For You” by The Rembrandts which excitedly gets you in the mood for what you’re about to uncover. I went a bit mental with joy when I first entered the event grounds as there is just so much to take in, like Pheobe’s Grandma’s Yellow Cab, Ross and Rachael’s Vegas Wedding Chapel, a huge tent pointing to the apartment tour, Central Perk and so much more. I didn’t know where to start!
In all honesty, the full event is just one big photo opportunity! You find yourself posing at every possible opportunity, it’s my idea of heaven! We headed to Ross and Rachael’s Vegas Wedding Chapel first to try on wedding dresses and obviously to take photos!
Once we were done we saw there wasn’t much of a queue for the apartment tours so we headed to our tour. In the tent firstly you’re presented with a lot of original memorabilia like the turkey Monica wore to cheer up Chandler, THE guitar Pheobe used, and HUGSY! It was surreal seeing them up close and with their prop tags on. We were then guided to Joey and Chandler’s apartment and THE hallway. It felt really small compared to how I’d imagined it, again I was quite overwhelmed by it all that I was actually sitting on the recliner Joey had once sat in! The hallway is again also quite small, and believe it or not those steps actually lead nowhere. We were then lead to Monica and Rachels apartment which is bigger than I thought it would be. It was very cosy and just as you see it on the TV! Lastly on the tour was Ross’s apartment which is new to the tour! It’s also quite big compared to how it’s shown on the TV and very Ross.
After the tour, we headed to a unique photo opportunity of the “Friends” moment voted the fans’ favourite… Pivot and then we sat on the famous couch! After all the posing, we headed for a coffee at Central Perk! I half expected Gunther to be there. Playing in the coffee house was a Pheobe tribute who was very good.
And lastly, we headed to Joey’s Pizza for a slice of the finest and settled down to watch Friends on a huge screen, does it get any better?!
We had a fantastic evening at FriendsFest and would totally recommend any Friends Fans to experience this once in a lifetime event! Tickets are priced at £27.50 and they’re heading to Manchester next. Make sure you check it out!
