Herbalife Nutrition 21 Day Fitness Challenge

Herbalife Nutrition was something that caught my attention last year after following reality television star Ferne McCann’s incredible transformation to a happier and healthy lifestyle.

Ferne began her Herbalife journey whilst she was pregnant with her daughter Sunday and it was amazing to witness her step by step transition from postpartum to where she is now. Her results have been astonishing. Her skin looks amazing, her figure looks insane and best of all she looks really happy and confident within herself.

I was sceptical of Herbalife at first. I put off trying it since I didn’t think the plans would suit my lifestyle and I really hate shakes, especially protein shakes. I also didn’t think meal replacements were a healthy way of trying to lose weight. However, after extensive research and trying the products myself, Herbalife’s product range has been designed by experts, to aid in reaching health and wellness goals. Whether you are looking to reach your ideal healthy weight, or you are a serious and competitive athlete striving to improve your performance, they have a product for you.

My Herbalife journey started when I was contacted by a representative, just before Christmas to see if I’d like to get involved in the January 21 Day Fitness Challenge with ex-Olympic sprinter, Samantha Clayton. Pondering Herbalife at the time, I obviously said yes. What better way to shift the Christmas pudding than to have something to focus on and motivate me!

I received a rather exciting package over Christmas which included a big kit including a gym bag, workout attire, water bottle and the products. The Herbalife Nutrition products I received were:

  • Formula 1 Nutritional Shake Mix Chocolate
  • Formula 1 Nutritional Shake Mix Rasberry & Blueberry
  • Aloe Concentrate
  • Instant Herbal Beverage Rasberry & Lemon
  • Protein Bars Chocolate Peanut & Almond
  • Protein Drink Mix

The aim of the 21 Day challenge was to kickstart the year and help get me back into my health and fitness routine with the products and workout videos released each day by Samantha Clayton each around 7-10 mins long.

There were two workouts to choose from – Beginner and Fit 2 Fitter so you can set the tempo from the start. The challenge also targets every part of the body so whether you’re looking to shape up, challenge yourself, build muscle or shift a few lbs – you can get great results.

My Experience

I started the challenge a few days earlier than the official start date as I was back to work on the 2nd of January and was desperate to get going after overindulging all over Christmas. My aim over the 21 days was to shed a few pounds and tone up. I felt like I’d lost a lot of definition over the festive period due to too many mince pies and lack of exercise. Before Christmas, I’d got to a comfortable weight where I felt confident with my figure so really, I wanted to achieve that same weight and overall look.

The main aim when following a Herbalife plan is to have a shake for your breakfast and then eat two high protein and nutritious meals throughout the day with a few snacks, preferably the Herbalife protein bars, an alternative high protein snack or fruit.

I weighed myself on the first day of the programme and learnt that over Christmas I’d gained 3lbs. To be honest, I was over the moon with that. I’d expected at least half a stone but hey, I’m not complaining!

For the first week, I stuck to two shakes a day. Not because I wanted to drastically lose weight in the first week, but to get started, stay focused, and try and get rid of bloating. I suffer from easily bloating and having not been consistently drinking 3 litres of water a day over the Christmas holidays I felt so uncomfortable with my bloating. I went back to the gym, signed up for a few High-Intensity Training and toning classes and got started. My main meal of the day would be consist of chicken or fish, roasted vegetables and some sweet potato, and then I’d stick to the Herbalife protein bars and fruit as my snacks.

I was worried about the shakes in case I didn’t like the flavours and that they wouldn’t fill me resulting me being starving and then binging on food. How wrong I was! You can mix your shakes with semi-skimmed milk but I just used the protein powder as the milk supplement within my shakes mixed with Formula 1 Healthy Meal and they were absolutely delicious. My favourite flavour has to be the raspberry & blueberry as I mixed a handful of berries into the blender with the powder which made it taste like a proper smoothie. Since the shakes are jammed packed full of nutrients, I was super full after every shake. I mean it’s certainly not the same as having a meal but they’re great and it really wasn’t as bad as I was expecting. Same goes with the protein bars, I always think every protein-based product has the same awful taste but these do not, the peanut butter bar literally tastes like fudge, you would never be able to tell it’s a protein bar and was perfect for my 11 am green tea break! In my first week, I lost 2lbs, which doesn’t sound a lot, but I felt so much better and less bloated. Those 2lbs made all the difference!

When week two came around, I went down to one shake a day for breakfast and two meals a day. Having a shake for my breakfast is so quick, easy and totally effortless. I’m out the door on time now for work instead of always being late as it takes seconds to create your nutritious breakfast with Herbalife. A typical daily routine with Herbalife for me looks like the below:

6am – Workout
7:30am – Herbal Tea & Aloe Water
8:30am – Healthy Meal Shake
11:00am – Herbalife protein bar
1:00pm – Chicken & Roasted vegetables
3:00pm – Fruit & Greek Yoghurt or Ryvita, hummus & 2 boiled eggs.
6:00pm – Fish, roasted vegetables & sweet potato

I tend not to weigh myself every week as I take more notice of what’s going on in the mirror and the change in my body had well and truly begun by week 2. The bloating I’d experience had pretty much gone, my usual symptoms of IBS had started to become a distance memory, my skin had started to clear up and I felt fabulous.

By week three, the Herbalife plan started to become a lifestyle rather than a diet or an experiment. The routine has started to become the norm and I genuinely have not felt better than I do right now. Last week I felt a bit down in the dumps and felt like grabbing a cheeky chocolate bar from a selection box from Christmas until I looked in the mirror and some baby abs appeared and I remembered why I had started this. To be a better version of myself!

There have been so many benefits to me trying Herbalife but the deal breaker for me has been how much the programme has improved my digestive system particularly, my gut is very happy right now. I’ve lost around 4/5lbs which is good enough for me and my figure has completely changed in such a short amount of time. I really enjoyed the daily workouts from Samantha and loved logging on to the blog to find out information and wellness knowledge.

It’s only been three weeks, but I really do recommend Herbalife and can’t wait to continue my journey and see where I am in a years time. I’m so pleased I tried the programme and am looking forward to trying new flavours and products from the range!

    Girl you look incredible!! I’ve had the Herbalife banana shake and I loved it, it had such a nice taste unlike a lot of other protein shakes. Not one for fitness as such but I do like to try and eat healthily and watch my weight so these are fab xx

    I love Herbalife!! I think they’re so good for a detox and all the vitamins you need!
