Winter is when all the fun begins, isn’t it? I’d go as far to say that it’s British Party Season. Que the little black dresses, fur coats and tights! I headed to the Botanist a few weeks ago in Newcastle City Centre for the launch of their brand-new Mezzanine Bar! The Botanist is incredibly popular in Newcastle and been a great addition to the city since its opening in 2014.
You can find the Mezzanine bar overlooking the buzzing pub and iconic nine-metre-tall sycamore centrepiece, which is super dazzling and creates that extra WOW factor! The mezzanine measures 645 sq ft and will be used for private functions and can accommodate up to 80 guests. When not booked out for a function, the space will also contribute to the dining area. The extra bar means customers will have easy access to The Botanist’s well-renowned drinks menu and varied selection of ales, beers and ciders alongside spirits, wines and soft drinks on the new level. I was invited to the VIP launch to sample their famous cocktails and a bite to eat.
When I arrived the place was heaving, as the Botanist always is. I’d advise anyone looking to visit, to book in advance to ensure you get a seat. Every time I’ve been I’ve had to hunt for a seat! Which isn’t a bad thing really because it presents to me that this is the place to be. The Mezzanine bar is on the second floor, away from the hustle and bustle. I was greeted warmly at the bar with a glass of prosecco, great start! The interior in the Botanist is very shabby chic, and that theme is continued throughout the new area. I just LOVE the rustic décor. You can tell a lot of love, care and attention have gone into creating this feel. It’s an incredibly cosy place that I probably more associated with Autumn and Winter because of the dim lighting and cute tea lights.
I took the other half along with me and we grabbed a seat next to Chloe and her partner Simon. The drinks were flowing, literally. We were handed a range of beverages; my favourite was definitely the Elderflower and Lavender Fizz! Very Instagram-able. We were also handed samples from their new menu which was delicious. I loved the hummus, I mean who doesn’t love hummus and especially in a shovel, please?! You could tell it was homemade too.
We had a lovely night, it was nice to catch up with friends in a relaxed atmosphere like The Botanist. The Mezzanine bar is great news for the Newcastle nightlife scene, plus the new menu added to the mix is sure to draw more and more people in the place. Head to The Botanist if you’re in Newcastle, you heard it from me.
