Spa at Ramside

Last week I was lucky enough to experience a Twilight Spa evening at the new Spa at Ramside.

Spa at Ramside is a connecting building to one of Durhams most luxury hotels. The hotel is the largest privately owned hotel in the North East, with 18 hole championship golf courses, award-winning gardens, a brand new luxury spa and a whole host of restaurants all under one roof. It was formerly the home of the Pemberton family and has been transformed into a hotel since 1963. The Spa at Ramside opened it’s doors summer last year after being part of a £16m development to make the hotel one of the most exciting leisure attractions in the region.

Their philosophy is that ‘Things feel different once you enter through our doors, we encourage you to switch off and let your personalized journey begin’. Not only is this a place to unwind but it is also a sanctuary for cancer patients which I feel is a brilliant touch and service to offer at a Spa. They call it Wellness for Cancer, which is the first global organization to establish standardized, objective, cancer-focused training and business criteria for the spa and wellness industry. Wellness for Cancer, has specifically trained and certified the Spa at Ramside to provide services for clients who have experienced or are currently living with cancer.

I went down last Thursday evening where I met a small group of other North East bloggers, we were greeted graciously by Ramside’s attentive staff. The head co-coordinator of the spa explained to us about the wellness packages they offer for gym and spa use as well as little background into the place. We were then given a grand tour of the facilities and I was so impressed.

Firstly we went up to the fitness suite which was were the gym and work out studios were, all machines were up to date and state of the art. Secondly we went along to the treatment rooms along with their mini nail and make up salon which our guides told us was very popular with hen parties and birthdays. The room was just stunning, so modern and cosy meaning it would be a very relaxing atmosphere for you and your girls should you choose to hold a pamper party there.

We then moved on to the actual treatment rooms where we got to check out the decor and relaxation vibes, it was very dark it actually reminded me of when you go to sleep but I guess that’s what we associate relaxation with…sleep.

Once we’d been informed about what treatments they actually did like hot stone massages, body scrubs and facials they then explained about which products they used which were all ESPA we then went back down to the Thai Fusion restaurant for a bite to eat. The food was delicious, we started with a variety of sushi, then had a few dishes off the main menu like Dim Sum, Duck Spring Rolls, Chicken Satays and many more, it was divine. My favourite was the chicken satays and the peanut butter sauce, it was so succulent and juicy.

Once we were done with our food it was time to really relax, I was so excited to get in the jacuzzi and breath for a second after a rather busy day so that’s exactly what I did. The changing room is dazzling, dark wood lockers with marble flooring and benches, very plush. We got changed and headed into the actual spa facilities, starting with the jacuzzi next to the swimming pool (which is huge FYI).

After 20 minutes or so we moved on to the outdoor whirl pool which was quite the attraction with flashing lights lightening up the surrounding outside area which was fully kitted out with outdoor furniture like lounging beds and and chairs. The whirl pool was steaming it was so hot, it was so luxuriate.

The spa is made up of two separate rooms should I say, one with the swimming pool and one with large Hydrotherapy pool with swan necks and massage jets. The walk way to get to the two rooms is filled with a Thermal suite including Herbal Sauna, Himalayan Salt Steam, Aroma Steam, Tepidarium, Sunken Amphitheatre Sauna and Drench Showers. My favourite was definitely the hydrotherapy pool!

We also received this amazing goody bag! I had such a fabulous night at Spa at Ramside and will definitely be popping along again soon!
