Newcastle City Centre has recently had a well needed, shall we say ‘revamp’. The past two years ‘toon’ has quickly became a stylish, modern and booming city centre bringing not only Geordies back into the area but tourists. We’re now lucky enough to hold some nationwide bar chains names such as The Botanist and Revolution but we’re also even luckier having our very own ‘unique to us’ new bars such as Livellos, Pleased to Meet You and No28.
Another new addition to our newbie list is Rub Smokehouse, which is a BBQ restaurant with routes firmly situated from the South of the USA. After a great success of the Nottingham Rub & Rub Birmingham, and before Rub’s second birthday, Rub on the Tyne was officially opened on the 18th October 2016, in the Gate leisure complex. Exciting news for the meat lovers like me so when I was invited down to their blogger event I was thrilled! I went down last Monday to give the place a whirl and see what the fuss was about.
I arrived after work and met up with some other lovely North East bloggers who’d also been invited, we mingled for a while and were greeted with an exotic looking cocktail then seated into teams. I say teams because we were cocktail making and sampling, Joe aka the cocktail god of the cocktail world (lotta cock’s in there ha!) started by showing us how make well known and loved recipes then it was our job as a team to collectively work together and re-make it. It was messy, it was fun and the liquor was flowing! Once we’d made each cocktail Joe would come round and sample our versions, trying not to wince as he tasted a few of our strong ones and then he’d choose out of the four teams which he thought was the best. Obviously my team (team blue, you know who you are) were the best, we gel’d really well and managed to create the best tasting cocktails…ever. Unfortunately we only won a few rounds as the white team (you know who you are) did have good presentation BUT it’s what’s inside that counts ey, not that I’m bitter about loosing or anything *rolls eyes*. My favourite cocktail of the evening was the WooWoo which was Rubs take on the classic WooWoo which had Skyy Vodka, Peach & Maple Syrup, Cranberry Juice and Prosecco in it, served up with a Sheriff’s Badge and wrapped in Crime Scene Tape. Very Instagram worthy.
Mid cocktail making we sampled a few of Rubs delicacies including, a Rub Burger which by the way was amazing!! So succulent and juicy, not dried out by the bun either. Then we tried their signature nachos which were dolloped in cheese, spring onion and salsa oh boy, were they good my mouth may or may not be watering right now thinking about them. Plus some pigs wrapped in blankets, talk about getting in the Christmas spirit, yum.
By the end of the event it’s fair to say I was feeling a little tipsy…which meant the brownie I received on my way out tasted like THE best brownie I’ve ever tasted in my life. I can’t wait to go back and try more of their menu soon with my boyfriend! Have you tried Rub before?
Thank you to ELLEfluence for the invite and the staff at Rub for an amazing night.
