Jamie’s Italian Newcastle | Foodie Review

With just three weeks to go until Christmas, have you organized your girly gathering or festive date night with the other half yet?! No? Well, what about Jamies Italian?

A few weeks ago, myself and my Mam went along to the Jamies Italian in Newcastle City Centre on a wintery Wednesday evening after work to give their latest evening special ‘The Quick and Easy’ dinner menu ago which comes in at just £15.95 for two courses. SPOILER we weren’t left disappointed!

You can find Jamies Italian located just opposite Grey’s Monument, with amazing views of the legendary Grey Street. Since we’re in full swing of the most magical time of year, you also get the best display of the stunning Christmas Market which is an added bonus! The restaurant celebrated three years within its residency in Newcastle this year and has been a very popular spot ever since it opened it’s doors back in February 2014.

We were welcomed into the cosy, shabby chic eatery by the welcoming staff and shown to our table. We arrived around 6 pm and the place was already buzzing. It had a really nice atmosphere for a weeknight! Lighting is quite dim, but really sets the mood for relaxation. Ideal for that ‘after work’ feel.

I ordered a Berry Black mocktail since I was designated driver and my Mam had a large glass of Rose. ‘The Quick and Easy’ dinner menu is a fabulous menu, it has so much selection but not too much. It didn’t leave me in a state of indecisiveness but there is something for everyone. I went for the Creamy Welsh Mussels to start, I just LOVE mussels! These were Welsh rope-grown mussels cooked in cream & cider, with garlic, chives & toasted paysan complete with toasted bread. And, my Mam went for the Crispy Squid & Smashed Avo which was basically crispy fried sustainable squid with ery smashed avocado for dunking.

My starter won out of the two, the mussels were divine. The combination of cream, cider, garlic, and chives worked so well together resulting in it being lip-smackingly good. The squid was tasty too, the smashed avocado complimented the fresh squid taste with a zingy tang of lemon.

For the main course I went for the Sizzling Sirloin Steak, British sirloin steak served medium, with garlicky cherry tomatoes, aubergine, basil & fries which has a £3 supplement by the way. My Mam went for the Rose Pesto Prawn Pasta, Sustainably caught garlicky prawns fried with red pesto & rosé wine, tossed through fresh linguine.

My steak was cooked to utter perfection! Is there really any other way to have a steak than medium? It was juicy, tender and flavoursome. The portion of fries went down a treat too! The Rose Pesto Prawn Pasta was scrumptious. The prawns were of a decent size and garlicky indeed! I have a fork full of course so can vouch for my Mam’s opinion. The pasta was al dente, just as you’d expect from an authentic Italians!

By this point we were absolutely stuffed, I still managed dessert though! I couldn’t resist, especially since dessert is only an extra £3. The dessert menu is something else! It’s jam-packed full of chocolate favourites and traditional favourites. After much deliberation, I went for the Epic Chocolate Brownie! I’m an absolute sucker for a brownie, and this one sound mouth-watering since it’s served with rich chocolate sauce salted caramel gelato and caramelized popcorn.

It was a great decision from me to get the brownie as it was up there with one of the best brownies I’ve ever tasted. It was very rich, moist and so thick on the palette. I was in chocolate heaven. I want it again, now, as I write this.

After I’d wolfed my dessert down it was time to head home! I had a lovely evening at Jamies Italian Newcastle. The staff were superb and very accommodating. The atmosphere was chilled, relaxing and the food was 10/10. I’ll definitely be returning, the menu is fantastic value for money, especially for Newcastle rates.
