DIY Evening Spa with Seaham Hall

Love is most certainly in the air at Seaham Hall!

The idyllic North East hotspot has become one of our favourite venues for date night and we had the pleasure of visiting last week for some early valentines celebrations.

You may remember our engagement celebrations back in September, and if you do you’ll know that Seaham Hall holds a special place in our hearts. I was delighted to be invited back by the team last week to review their latest spa package offering and their valentines day set menu!

We headed down on a blustery cold evening after work, eager to wind down after a busy day. On arrival, you’re always greeted with a warm smile and welcomed by the staff plus given a tour of the facilities.

In September, Jorden and I took part in a couples massage outside which was amazing but I appreciate not very conventional. We were pleasantly surprised by the whole experience and loved it – especially since the weather was still nice!

This time around at the spa, we tried something even more unconventional. We took part in a DIY couples massage. And it was exactly what you’re imagining right now. We gave each other a massage. BUT, with the help of a professional!

I won’t lie, we were apprehensive about the whole set up, but it was genuinely so much fun. We had help from the lovely Caitlin who guided us on techniques, informed us on how to pinpoint areas of stress, and had the patience of a saint with us. It was a real learning experience and so interesting. I can’t say it was particularly romantic but was such a different experience. I’d recommend to another couple for a date night for sure though.

I tell you what, it’s hard work being a masseuse and it’s hungry work! We then headed to The Ozone Restaurant. The Ozone offers Pan-Asian cuisine in a fabulous setting. It’s a relaxed and informal restaurant which is located in the Serenity Spa; perfect for those who want to enjoy authentic, exciting food in an equally extravagant location or if you fancy a laid-back lunch in your robes after relaxing in the spa.

I’ve raved about the food here before, and it never disappoints. We were given a sharing menu which is being offered on Valentines Day for couples. The menu is as follows:

  • Platter of Tempura Oyster for starter
  • Ozone Surf and Turf Teriyaki for main
  • Selection of Mini Ozone Desserts

On arrival, we were greeted with a glass of pink fizz and then came the food! The crispy tempura oysters were served with a tangy cucumber and seaweed salad which I devoured, the dressing was divine!

The surf and turf included a 9oz Sirlion Steak with Garlic Fried King Prawns served with sweet potato fries and Asian picked salad. The steak was cooked to utter perfection, complimented nicely by the garlic fresh prawns and the teriyaki sauce. It was bursting with flavour!

And last but not least, my favourite dish of the evening, dessert. Chocolate brownie, raspberry cheesecake, sticky toffee pudding and sweet flan! I have a massive sweet tooth, so I find it difficult to decide on a dessert so this option is perfect for me. You really can have a bit of everything! The chocolate brownie was warm and gooey, and the sticky toffee was saturated in the toffee making it melt in the mouth. Absolutely delicious! If I could have eaten it all over again, I would have. The food is just fantastic.

Then the time came to relax in the spa! The Serenity Spa has fabulous facilities including:

  • 20-metre pool with massage stations
  • Hammam with snail showers and Jacuzzi
  • Asian herbal sanarium
  • Salt sauna
  • Indian steam room with amethyst crystal
  • Outdoor hot tubs
  • Hydrotherapy pool
  • Ice fountain
  • Roof terrace
  • Plunge pools
  • Spacious aerobic studio
  • State of the art fitness suite
  • Zen Garden with relaxation beds and infinity hydrotherapy pool with jets

The Serenity Spa is the best spa I’ve been too, there’s just something about the space that makes you feel instantly warm and at home. If you’d like a luxury date night with a twist like Jorden and me, you can from £198 per couple. Included is:

  • Enjoy access to spa facilities from 5pm to 10pm
  • Use of fluffy robes and spa flip flops
  • 30 minute massage per person; performed by your partner with the guidance of one of our temple spa experts
  • Mini massage oil per person to keep up your self-care spa skills
  • Two course sharing selection in the Ozone served between 6pm and 9pm, with a glass of pink fizz per person
