Last weekend myself and one of my girlfriends headed into Toon for an afternoon tea date at the Copthorne Hotel Newcastle. Situated in one of the most attractive and convenient locations in the city, set on the quayside the four-star accommodation offers stunning views of the River Tyne. I absolutely LOVE the quayside, it’s such a thriving, buzzing place that always has such a fun atmosphere about it so it really doesn’t surprise me it’s such a hotspot for locals and tourists.
It was my friends birthday back in March and I managed to get the afternoon tea booked through a Groupon voucher at the bargain price of £19 instead of £39.90 for afternoon tea for two people with a gin and tonic or a glass of Prosecco each. Groupon have great deals on things to do in Newcastle, make sure you check them out!
We arrived around mid-afternoon on a sunny afternoon and were welcomed in by staff, then shown to our table which was prime seats to the breathtaking quayside views! The Copthorne is a grand hotel with stunning features, it has modern 1950’s twist to it.
There were a few drink options to choose from on arrival including a few gin cocktails and the standard G&T. We both went for the red berry gin cocktail. I am a sucker for a cocktail!
The cocktail was deliciously fruity and very refreshing, perfect for the sunny day! We only waited a short while before being presented with our afternoon tea which was a cluster of traditional favourites including a selection of sandwiches, jam and scones, plus some sweet treats and of course a good cup of tea.
The sandwich selection was good, there were three options including tuna, cheese savoury and ham. I went for the ham and it was really tasty. The scones were homemade and made with extra love, totally divine. I loved that the jam and cream came in a dish as there’s nothing worse when there are only a few mini jars on offer! My favourite part of the afternoon tea trio was the cakes which obviously have something to do with the fact I have a massive sweet tooth. Available to devour were a melt in the middle chocolate pudding, carrot cake and lemon drizzle cake, all of which are my favourite desserts. The chocolate pudding was out of this world!
I always presume I’ll go hungry after afternoon tea because it’s little bits of everything, however, I’m certainly wasn’t after this one! My taste buds were totally spoilt. After we’d polished up, we took a short stroll along the quayside which was lovely.
I was really impressed with afternoon tea at the Copthorne Hotel and I’ll certainly be back. I’ll be keeping an eye on any more Groupon vouchers that’s for sure.
