The moment we’ve all been waiting for. Autumn has arrived, ish. As much as I love September, it is a bit of an in-between month, isn’t it? There’s still a bit of sun yet the dark mornings are starting to creep in as well as the blustery wind and cold temperatures.
We’ve had a cracking summer but now I’m looking forward to cosy nights in, getting my candles lit again, X Factor, Halloween, Bonfire night and dare I say it this early… Christmas! I actually bought my first Christmas present last week AND my advent calendar, I’ve hit prime adulthood right now. Go me!
One of the things I’m most looking forward to about this season is the fashion! We were spoilt for choice in the summer with all of the print trends and apparently, it’s meant to continue right through to winter, much to my delight. I recently read in Vogue that the ‘Animal Instinct’ movement is coming and it’s going wild this season. Who doesn’t love a bit of Kat Slater leopard print though?! In the same article, Vogue revealed Silk is hitting our rails as well as ‘Logo Loco’ trend which feels very 90’s. Who What Wear also reported the rise of ’70’s Shade of Brown’ I love chestnut, I love maroon, I love all of the browns and I adore 70’s signature pieces like the turtleneck. This season feels full of variety for everyone no matter what your shape or size is.
Having recently shed a few pounds, I’ve been desperate to go shopping and get some new clothes as I’ve now dropped a whole dress size, which is very exciting. I feel utterly amazing, my clothes now fit me in a way I never knew they could. I feel so much more confident. So, I thought it was time to treat myself. Fortunately for me, the guys at Silverlink Shopping Park got in touch a few weeks ago and asked me to visit the park and go AW fashion mad! As well as identifying key trends that work for me.
The Silverlink Shopping Park is one of the North East’s biggest retail park situated in Newcastle offering free parking and more than 20 retailers including top names such as Currys PC World, Outfit, New Look, Boots, River Island, Next, M&S and many more. Then even have an Odeon and a Nandos, what more could you want? Back in 2014, the retail park underwent a massive redevelopment and now it’s a region shopping hotspot.
I headed down to the park last Saturday to see what threads I could get my hands on. The team at Silverlink asked me to focus on one store, and I choose New Look. Ah, good old New Look. It’s been a brand that I have always loved yet seem to forget about because of the ever-evolving fast fashion market. I predominately shop online these days which is depressing as I love nothing more than a shopping trip but as I get older, time seems way more limited (as does money!). Anyway, I choose New Look for a couple of reasons, one being they’ve never let me down on quality, two the clothes are affordable and three their ranges are always bang on trend.
The New Look at Silverlink is by far the best New Look I’ve ever been in, it’s massive. Everywhere you look there’s a rail, but not like Primark where it’s a maze, everything is appropriate spaced out so you can digest everything. Immediately on arrival, I identified the 70’s trend which I was discussing earlier. 50 shades of brown, maroon and my favourite mustard. I know it’s a really simple thing but I love seeing manikins wear clothing so you can see how the pieces fit, because we’ve all been there haven’t we, when we imagine how something’s going to look in our heads and then we try it on and it looks like a bag of crap! My point is, New Look really showcase their ranges properly on manikins which I like to see.
There were so many pieces that caught my eye, including a few culotte jumpsuits. I normally stay clear of culotte in fear that they make my legs look bigger than they are and because I’m fairly small, I’m only 5ft4 so I try and find outfits that elongate my legs and y’know I like my legs so always choose something fitted. Anyhow, turns out culotte’s are actually mega in this season so I thought I’d give them a whirl. I also choose to try on a few fitted jumpers. I say fitted as I often get lost in big baggy jumpers. Having a pair of big knockers is a blessing and a pain in the arse at times as when I wear baggy clothing I go from being a size 8-10 to a size 14-16 which isn’t ideal when you have a 28inch waist. Anyway, New Look cater for gals like me thankfully! Aft grabbing a few more items, I went to the changing rooms for a try on.
Like I said, I’ve dropped a dress size so I needed a new pair of skinny jeans these came in at just £7.99. What a bargain! I paired the jeans with this black stripe C’est La Vie slogan jumper which was £22.99. I knew as soon as I saw this jumper, I had to have it. Winter fashion doesn’t have to be all black everything and this brings colour and a fun aspect to this outfit.
I did tell you I loved leopard print so when I saw this brown leopard print ribbed jersey jumpsuit I had to have it. I also mentioned how I stay clear of culottes but it turns out they really suit me. This jumpsuit is comfy yet dressy and compliments my figure, especially with the v cut neck and belt around the waist which exaggerating my assets. There’s currently 20% off at the minute so this jumpsuit came in at just £18.74!
I also treated myself to a fabulous mustard single breasted formal coat for New York which works well with my brunette complexion which was JUST £35.99 and this yellow check longline scarf which matched perfectly for £9.99. And lastly… not being a ‘hat’ kinda’ person I never usually try any on but this black corduroy military baker boy cap for £7.00 caught my eye. So I tried it on, and now I pretty much want to sleep in it. I LOVE IT! Whatcha’ think?
There were lots of stunning pieces in store for this season and it was really difficult to control my spending but I’m ecstatic with what I picked up. Taking a trip to Silverlink Shopping Park and discovering this season has made me even more excited about the change in fashion. Huge thank you to Silverlink for inviting me down, I’ll be heading there more often.
