If you didn’t already know, I’ve just visited Mexico. If you didn’t, where have you been?! Not only have I been constantly banging on about it pre-holiday, but whilst I was there, if you follow me on Instagram, you probably felt like you were there with me! Insta-addict and I ain’t afraid to admit it.
Myself and my boyfriend booked up at the beginning of the year in March and we felt like it was a lifetime wait back then but the last 7 months have FLOWN. We booked up for two weeks in paradise at the Moon Palace in Cancun. We had originally booked up to go to a different hotel, however, Thomson informed me six weeks before the holiday that there was construction in the hotel next door and I didn’t fancy sitting on a building site, therefore, they kindly let us move hotels and it worked out better in the end. We flew from Newcastle, which was ideal being so close to home, at 10 in the morning. The flight is long haul, 10 hours to be exact. It’s such a long time, it felt never-ending and dragged so much when we were going there as we were just desperate to arrive. After what felt like an eternity plus 10, we arrived at around 4/5pm Mexican time, it’s 6 hours behind from the UK so it’s quite a time difference.
The heat and humidity are insane in Mexico, the minute I stepped off the plane it took my breath away and I was sweating within seconds since I stupidly decided to wear a tracksuit (bad idea!). Luckily our bags were first off the plane and we had a private airport taxi awaiting us, and headed straight to our hotel. The journey was only 20 minutes or so, and then we arrived at the hotel. It’s crazy how polite and attentive the staff were over there, nothing is ever too much. The butlers took our bags and we checked in. The Moon Palace hotel is just spectacular, you are literally in your own little bubble. The resort is extremely safe and has three separate palace hotels located just around its own beach island. We were in Nizuc, the middle hotel. The other two are called Sunrise and The Grand, the hotel provides shuttle buses and golf caddies for you to move around and explore. All three are absolutely amazing and massive, it feels a bit like a Centre Parks setting. I couldn’t believe how gorgeous and spacious our room was. A king size bed, a two-person Jacuzzi bath, plasma television, a huge shower. Pure 5* star bliss. The view from our room was lovely too, we could see the beach and the mini-golf course. I have honestly never stayed in such luxury before.
I was worried staying in a resort that there wouldn’t be much to do but there aren’t enough hours in the day for all of the activities and areas you can discover in each hotel. Since you can visit all three hotels and use each facilities and restaurants, you were spoilt for choice. There were 14 restaurants in total. The best restaurants were located in The Grand. Our favourites were the steakhouse and the Italian, the food for an all-inclusive resort was delicious, we didn’t have one bad meal. You receive Resort Credits while you’re staying in the Palace Resorts which you can use for activities like swimming with dolphins, days out, spa visits and the likes then you only have to pay the tax which is only 16%. One day we decided to use our credits and visited the spa where I had a facial and my boyfriend had a massage. The spa was the best spa, I’ve ever been to and my facial was fabulous. It’s exactly what I’ve needed!
Whilst we were in Cancun, we did leave the hotel for a few trips. We swam with dolphins at a dolphin recovery centre, which is basically a place where the dolphins aren’t captured or kept against their will, they were found un-well and are looked after to best suit their needs. It was a surreal experience, Dolphins feel like rubber for your information by the way and after extremely friendly! We also visited to the well renowned CocoBongo, which to be honest was a let-down. The show itself was fantastic, the staff and service were shocking. It was a great night though, in the end. We also headed to another palace resort which further into Cancun City via hotel shuttle and went to their beach which had the bluest sea I’ve ever seen. It was truly remarkable!
Luckily my best friend and her partner were there at the same time so we had a blast with them! They also got engaged while we were there which was very exciting and we had lots of celebrations, there are two nightclubs within the resort so we celebrated in style. We were a little apprehensive about what it would be like, but it was great, there was a mix of Mexican music and pop music so there was lots of salsa dancing involved (although not very good!).
Overall, we had an amazing two weeks in paradise and I’d recommend The Moon Palace resorts to anyone, families, couples, groups, anyone. There’s something for everyone! I noticed there were separate facilities for children, a playroom and lots of entertainment meaning the kids were always doing something. Ideal for any Mummy’s reading this. For couples, like me and my partner, there were quite spots, romantics meals available, adult only pools and bars. We didn’t take much spending money since we were all inclusive, so only used the money for day trips and excursions, again ideal for people on budgets.
I definitely want to go back soon, it was so relaxing and I really had the chance to just switch off.
