How I’m Pulling Off Jumper Dresses This Season

Dresses are my favourite items amongst my busy wardrobe. Finding the right style for you can totally transform your shape, flatter every curve and exaggerate your best assets. For example, I’ve discovered dresses that draw attention to my waistline since I’m top heavy really work well for me! Dresses just make life so much easier. There’s no real thought behind a dress, you just shove one on and go. They’re easy-to-do statement pieces.

2018 brought us a fruitful selection of dress styles including, floaty dresses. I supported this style for the last few months of summer and even tried prolonging the style with tights since floaty dresses really do it for my figure. However, as of recent, they’re no match for the plummeting temperatures. Which is why I’m turning my attention to jumper dresses!

Once upon a time, they were shapeless and a bit chavvy, but autumn/winter 2018 has seen the off-duty staple receive a serious glow up. I honestly used to associate jumper dresses with hangovers! So, it’s not a case of should we be wearing them in public, but how should we be wearing them now?

Let’s consider the standard jumper dress, then. Why has it become so ‘must have’ this season? Well, for starters it’s a sartorial mash-up of two of my fave friends; a cosy winter knit and a standout frock. Not only that, it’s basically made to be worn with anything including Vans and Chelsea boots. The A/W life!

I had a browse around PrettyLittleThing recently and found they’re definitely supporting the effortless style and have a gorgeous range on offer. Who said you ever had to comprise style with comfort?

I came across this grey knitted leopard print jumper dress for only £18 and I just had to have it. I’ve said this a million times over now, but I just love prints, especially leopard print! I think I definitely have an inner Cat Slater. I’m always attracted to over-sized clothing which is an old habit from when I was slightly overweight and unfortunately old habits die hard so I’m guilty of swamping myself in material and forgeting that I actually have a figure to show off! Determined to jazz up the jumper dress I added four must-have accessories to glam my look up.

A Leather Jacket

Adding layers to a jumper dress won’t take away its shine, incorporating different textures like leather gives your attire dimension and contrast. I thought this leather jacket would compliment the print and add to my rock chic look.

Studded Belt

As I said, I suit dresses which draw attention to my waist. I’d probably say my waist is up there with my best asset so I thought why not show it off with this black studded diamante belt?! Drawing that attention creates an overall hourglass figure and that’s exactly what this belt has done for this look. Simple yet effective!

Ankle Boots

Knee length boots would suit this look too, but I thought these ankle boots would work better. Add heeled boots for height, and keep the rest of your ensemble paired back.

Shoulder Bag

A bag completes any look, right? This vintage double flap black shoulder bag works hand in hand the look.

See, told you jumper dresses weren’t shapeless or chavvy, more like comfortable and on point!
