A few weeks ago myself and the other half had a short, but sweet night away in The Lake District. I think us North East folk take for granted how close The Lakes actually is to us! I hadn’t been for years, I think the last time I went was when I was in school! We booked this little getaway ages ago, in mind that we may have some serious holiday blues after Mexico and I’ve never been so grateful for a night away.
We decided to stay at the Aphrodites Luxury Spa Hotel which is located close to Lake Windermere, after lusting at their fantastic rooms on social media! It’s been on our bucket list for a while so when an offer came up for a Sunday night we couldn’t turn it down. Aphrodites has seventeen luxury rooms and suites with hot tubs, plus it has an extremely a quiet location, surrounded by stunning scenery. Each room offers different facilities and a different elegant decór, many include hot tubs, mood lighting, steam rooms, saunas, king-sized beds and whirlpool baths for two. When they advertise it as ‘luxury’ you can really understand why with all of these perks!
We arrived just a little before 3pm, which is check-in time, so we headed to the closest town, Bowness Bay. There’s a lot to do in Bowness, including boat trips, plenty of boozers and fancy cocktail bars, restaurants and a wide choice of shops and cafés. It was a rather miserable day, to be honest, so we decided against walking into the town and grabbed a short taxi ride, which worked at out at only £3. Obviously, me and my boyfriend headed to the nearest bar which was The Fizzy Tarte. The Fizzy Tarte is a very chic, modern champagne and cocktail bar, it’s a little on the pricey side I must admit, but their Pornstar Martinis are delicious. We sat back and relaxed, taking in our scenery.
Feeling a little peckish, we then moved on to The Village Inn Bar & Grill, after our taxi driver recommend it! We were after good pub grub and we weren’t left disappointed. The place has been newly refurbished too which has given the old looking building a modern twist and facelift. It was all yummy freshly made dishes, and we learnt they only use local ingredients, which explains why my burger was unbelievably tasty. As you can see, my burger was big, meaty and juicy! I couldn’t fault the onion rings or hand cooked chips either. The other half fancied the meatballs, which were divine, I can vouch for that since he let me have a few mouth fulls. The food is reasonably priced at the Village Inn, considering the quality and portion sizes. I was really impressed. We had a wander around the town and totally fell in love with the history of the place, it has a great atmosphere, everyone is so friendly.
Finally, it was time to head back to the hotel and see our room! My boyfriend chose the suite which was The Lake District Spa Suite with Hot Tub and Swedish Hot Room. It was spectacular, the best hotel room I’ve EVER stopped in. In the bedroom was a King Size Bed, 60inch TV AND it had Netflix! Mood lighting, surround sound, fridge, tea & coffee facilities. Then, the best part of the room, the spa room has a hot tub, Swedish hot room, 42inch TV, relaxation bed, feature fire, large circular feature shower, music system plus colour and mood lightening. I mean, how unreal?! We popped open the fizz and began to unwind. We loved the hot tub and probably spent a bit more time than we should have in there since the TV is directly opposite it… so convenient!
We slept amazingly and woke up to a full English breakfast. Then it was time to head home! It was a lovely little relaxing breakaway but it just went too quick, I NEED to go back again soon!
Have you been to The Lake District before?
