Mane n’ Tail Haircare Review

I’ve got a new haircare secret for you all. It’s affordable. And you can buy it in Sainsbury’s. I present to you, Mane n’ Tail.

Mane n’ Tail are a brand I’ve always seen around, heard about, read about but never actually tried! That was until I walked into work, on my first day back from Mexico to a humongous goody bag on my desk from their super sweet PR team. Totally made my day! Inside my exciting package was a bag with my initials printed on it, a lovely branded Mane n’ Tail t-shirt, their brand mascot (a cute soft toy haha!), a magnetic personalised shopping list and of course The Straight Arrow Original Moisturizer Shampoo and Conditioner, plus The Straight Arrow Mane ‘n Tail The Original Deep Moisturising Shampoo and Conditioner. What a delivery! I was totally spoilt by the team.

Mane n’ Tail was first born on the Katzev family horse farm in rural New Jersey. Straight Arrow was born when Mr Katzev’s (owner of the company) parents created Original Mane ‘n Tail Shampoo and Conditioner… that was specifically targeted for show horses with long flowing manes and tails. The formulas were amazing and soon the line took off with the equestrian folks, but with one very important twist—the horse to human factor. Soon, the secret was out, consumers everywhere were reaping the benefits that were so coveted by the horse-owners ‘in-the-know’. While I was researching the brand, I was reading everywhere it was for horses and I was shocked, but then after reading about the formula and considering how shiny horses mains look, it made sense. The shampoo formula contains high lathering and ultra-cleansing agents that are fortified with moisturizers and emollients to help leave hair feeling soft and very clean. Accompanied with the conditioner which helps nourish and aid healthy hair growth, leaving hair looking lustrous and silky. These micro-enriched protein formulas help to prevent hair breakage and repair split ends, achieving the goal of longer, stronger, fuller hair. There’s a rumour that circulates the beauty industry that the Mane ‘n Tail duo even encourages hair growth. I couldn’t wait to start using to see what results I could achieve.

Let starts with the Deep Moisturising range, I used this first because after having two weeks in the sun, my hair was feeling dry, lifeless and looking all round a little tired. I take great pride in my hair as you’ll know if you’re a loyal reader of my beauty pages. Therefore I needed to do something quick! This range is for dry, damaged hair and is said to help repair damage from styling and the environment. They claim it’s hydrating and nourishes hair with Vitamin E and Provitamin B5. The shampoo doesn’t have a distinct fragrance, it’s not fruity or tangy as most shampoos are these days, in fact, it smelt like bog standard soap which isn’t a bad thing by the way and I wasn’t expecting it to be either. The solution is a bright, pearly blue colour. I squirted a medium size dollop on my hair and began to cleanse. I usually use too much shampoo since my hair is rather thick therefore I always lather it on, but with this I didn’t need to it. It spread evenly around my hair meaning I got full use of the product. After rinsing through my hair, my hair felt a lot better already. I then used the Deep Moisturising conditioner straight after, again it has no distinct smell and is the same colour as the shampoo. I used a large dollop this time and began applying the conditioner, it’s a very smooth formula and is easily spread and moisturised into the hair. I left it on for around five minutes, three minutes is usually fine but I like to leave on for as long as possible to let the product work to its full potential! I rinsed off and felt my hair was softer straight away. The proof of a good haircare duo isn’t until you’ve blow dried and styled your hair and this range did not disappoint, my hair was SO shiny after only one use. I was so impressed!

After being blown away by Deep Moisturising range I was looking forward to seeing what The Original Moisturizer Shampoo and Conditioner could do for my locks! The original range is said to achieve shiny, thicker and manageable hair. It’s used by both people and horses, it contains high lathering cleansing agents fortified with moisturizers and emollients. The micro-enriched protein formula provides “down to the skin” cleansing action and conditioning. The Original Shampoo doesn’t have an overpowering smell either, just like soap. Again the formula spread evenly around my hair meaning full coverage. The Original Conditioner is a rich formula with a unique action helps to maintain and achieve a longer, healthier-looking mane, tail or hair. It can be used as a Leave-In or Rinse-Out based on hair type and desired look. They claim it can help prevent hair breakage and split ends, help protect against unsightly flaking and scaling, plus keeping hair tangle free, soft and manageable for grooming and braiding. I used this conditioner the same way I used the Deep Moisturising, left on for five minutes and then rinsed off. Even after I’d towel dried my hair, it felt much better and was easily brushed instead of being tatty! I began blow-drying my hair, and noticed how easily styled and moulded from the haircare duo. Again, I am over the moon by this range too.

Overall, I’ve loved using the Mane ‘n Tail products the last two weeks and I can’t recommend them enough. I love the playful packaging, the bottle design and branding. The products are extremely good value for money, coming in at just £5.00 a bottle for immaculate results! Make sure you try.
