Following my recent hair update post, I’ve decided to continue the weave discussion and gossip about how important heat protection is for natural hair and extensions.
I’ll be honest, I’m blessed with thick shiny dark hair and have only ever had one episode where my hair was in such bad condition due to bleaching that it snapped an awful lot *I still get nightmares thinking about it!*. Maintaining the condition of my hair is very important to me and I prioritise it, incorporating it into a hair care routine, more so now I have the weave in since TLC is not only good for my extensions but for my real hair which is probably under strain with the extensions.
Extensions can get very dry, wispy and tatty if you don’t condition them properly and that can lead to a greater damage of your real hair! Personally, I love Tresemme conditioner on mine! I’ve experimented with different oils to apply on my weave too and have settled for a Schwarzkopf oil. A new remedy I’ve added into my routine is a heat protectant.
A heat protectant is something that adds moisture to your hair while forming a protective barrier that reduces moisture loss when heat is applied to your hair shafts. Your hair is constantly thirsty and screaming for moisture. Using a protectant, especially before you heat style your hair, will keep your hair conditioned despite the heat.
I was lucky enough to be sent CoCo LoCo by the lovely team at Lee Stafford! Lee has crafted together a range based around coconut oil, since it is a natural nutrient that provides essential proteins required for nourishing and repairing damaged hair after all! Lee states that it’s also rich lauric acid, allowing it to penetrate the hair shaft and reduce protein loss while hydrating and softening the hair.
This heat protectant has 0% alcohol and shields hair from up to 220°C. It claims to leave you with stronger, shinier, healthier hair. So does it I hear you ask?
Yes! I literally love this spray, not only does it smell amazing, it leaves my hair feeling silky smooth and hydrated. After styling my hair doesn’t look (or smell) frazzled. I love the ultra feminine packaging and funky design, it has a very summery feel to it, and the smell definitely compliments this. It’ll be interesting to see how this works when I’m on holiday since hair is usually under a lot of strain in the heat and with chlorine!
I’d definitely recommend this little beauty, especially since it’s retailed at a bargain price of £5.99. A real mini life saver! Do yo use a heat protectant?
