Hello Friday! I thought I’d start this post with a little catch-up and a natter. I’m in London right now and tonight I’m going to see Dream Girls which I am insanely excited about. Hoping it’s as good as the film, I’ve heard it is so fingers crossed!
What’s everyone’s thoughts on Love Island then?! I’m enjoying it but I’m not finding it as dramatic as the previous series as of yet, I’m sure it’ll get a bit juicier as the series develops. I’m hating Adam, I mean come on?! What a nob. I’m loving Alex, fingers crossed he finds the love of his life, he deserves it! And I adore Jack & Dani, Jack is literally the loveliest bloke ever (except my boyfriend!), good luck to them both! Anyway back to beauty…
This month, I’ve been trying some new and old but much-loved cosmetics and I thought I’d share with you all which products have been working for me. I love trying new beauty products out, let’s face it, who doesn’t love a good pamper?! Looking after yourself is all part of self-care and I’m a big advocate of looking at one’s self. So what have I been trying…
1. Herbal Haircare by Hempz
In January I was sent a Hempz body moisturiser and I loved it, it was my winter skincare savour! Hempz products are all enriched with 100% pure natural Hemp Seed oil which is renowned for its high levels of antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and essential fatty acids – making it a truly nourishing and a healing ingredient. They’ve now launched a Herbal Haircare collection which is also Sulphate-Free, Vegan-Friendly, Cruelty-Free and Paraben-Free! I have to be so careful when trying new shampoo’s and conditioners as I have a really sensitive and irritable scalp. I’ve found that using paraben-free products really reduce dry skin flare-ups and almost banishes them so I was really looking forward to trying this range. I received the shampoo, conditioner and hairspray.
The Fortifying Shampoo (£16.99) and Conditioner (£17.99) have been formulated with gentle cleansers to help maximise the life of colour treated hair and seal in moisture. They both smell similar, it’s a delightful fruity smell! It reminded me of a cocktail smell, like sex on the beach, very summery. The formula for both products is very thick and heavy which I didn’t mind. It was easy to apply and rinse, despite the thick consistency and after the use of both products, my hair felt amazing.
My hair was tangle free after use and once blow dried the shine was stunning on my hair. I’ve recently bleached the bottom of my hair so the ends have been a little dry, this duo has eliminated those dry split ends. I’d also just had a flare up on my scalp just before use so I was intrigued to see whether it would make a difference and it massively has, the dry skin is now totally gone after two washes, I’m thrilled. I swear by this duo!
I also really liked the hairspray, I don’t actually normally use a hairspray as I can weigh my already thick hair down even more. This Workable Hairspray (£18.99) helps add body and volume, guard against humidity, dryness and control frizz. The hairspray held the body and volume of my hair as it says on the bottle, I also loved the fact it didn’t make my hair greasy the next day or feel straw like it’s actually hydrating. I’d really recommend this range!
2. MAC Mischief Minx Palette
MAC, oh MAC, my favourite make up brand of all! I was fortunate enough to be sent this gorgeous Mischief Minx Palette from the team at World Duty Free. Who doesn’t love World Duty Free when you’re in the airport, grabbing those bargains! If you’re off anywhere nice this summer, you can grab this palette for JUST £27.20.
I am loving the bronze tones this season, they work really well for my complexion if I do say so myself. This palette features shadows V Frisky, Been There Done That, Flaming Femme, Mischief Minx, Natural Tease, She-naniganas, Schemer and Totally Trouble, plus an opalescent highlighter in Stride of Pride. My favourite was the She-naniganas mixed with the Been There Done That! These shadows are a new pressed powder in Satin Shine, Smooth Pearl, Foiled Shadow and Creamy Matte to deliver a creamy, silky texture with a superior colour payoff, while a new Highlighter formula in Opalescent is lightweight and glides on skin for just the right amount of pearl and pop. I can vouch that pigments were so strong, they also blended really easy together and the sheen was glowing! I’m a fan of MAC shadows anyway and this palette hasn’t disappointed!
3. Maison Margiela Across Sands
Maison Margiela is a brand I’ve never actually heard of before but World Duty Free kindly introduced me! You can grab this divine 100ml fragrance in an airport near you for £103.00 reduced from £128.75! What a bargain!
Across Sands is described to celebrate the Oriental tradition of a daring ‘oud’ fragrance softened with warm earthy notes of dates and cinnamon. The suave, fruity concoction is lifted with liquorice, osmanthus and divana flowers on the deep woody base of oud, patchouli and incense.
I adore the minimalism of the presentation of the branding and packaging, it really suits the company which I learned when I looked into Maison Margiela. On paper, the fragrance sounded lovely so I was excited to actually smell it!
The strong bursts of spice oozed out of the packaging instantly when I opened it! It smells very oriental and described yet mixed with a little citrus. It’s definitely a bit of me this perfume as I tend to go for strong distinct smelling perfumes. I can’t stop wearing it, it’s so long lasting too!
4. Natural World Haircare
I first discovered Natural World last year! You may be familiar with the brand as I put together a review here. The products have changed my life when it comes to haircare as this was the brand that made me realise the positive effect of paraben-free haircare solutions on my scalp! They’ve recently had a rebrand and I was lucky enough to get my hands on the new products.
The natural and organic haircare products Natural World create bring naturally active ingredients from around the world to create affordable luxury haircare. If your hair is frizz-prone or suffers from dehydration, Natural World organic hair products provide the hair treatment it needs. The Natural World ranges include; Argan Oil of Morocco, Brazilian Keratin, Chia Seed Oil, Coconut Water, Paw Paw & Quinoa, Charcoal & Mint and Shimmering Silver each with their own targeted function.
I love the Brazilian Keratin range! The formula targets frizz and damaged hair by mimicking the natural composition of hair to provide direct aid for unruly and frizzy hair. I’m a bit of a frizz head, to be honest, so this is perfect for me! I was lucky enough to receive the shampoo, conditioner and 2 tubes of treatment oil.
Having already tried the shampoo and conditioner, I knew they were wonderful but I was interested in the results I’d receive from the treatment oil. I tried the Brazilian Keratin oil first which has been created for that extra bit of moisture when your hair needs it. I mentioned previously that I’ve recently bleached my hair so my hair was in dire need of some TLC! Keratin is the main constituent of hair and replaces the broken keratin bonds when they are damaged or deteriorated, meaning this replenished my dry ends!
I also tried the Coconut Oil Hydration & Shine Weightless Hair Oil which is a lightweight hair treatment oil infused with certified organic Coconut, for a thirst-quenching action that leaves hair beautifully hydrated, soft and shiny. I loved the smell of the oil! It worked really well on my hair adding luscious shine and eliminated frizz.
Tesco has these babies on offer right now, you can’t miss out! The shampoo and conditioner, 1L bottles are only £3 instead of £6 and the oil is just £2.50 instead of £5… half price! I know where I’m going!
I’d recommend all of the above products! Have you been trying a new product you love this month?!
