Whether you rock a long bob or a pixie cut, there are so many reasons to go for the chop. However, while your new ‘do may bag you some extra style points, short hair is notoriously difficult to style, especially when it comes to blow drying.

Here, Tangle Teezer explains how to achieve a beautiful, bouncy blow dry in just a matter of minutes.

What you’ll need:

  • Towel
  • Hair dryer
  • Heat protection spray or serum
  • Tangle Teezer blow-styling tools

Step 1: Wash your hair

Run yourself a hot bath, light a few candles and wash your hair as normal. Pat your hair gently with a towel until the majority of the water has been absorbed. This will minimise the length of time your hair is exposed to the hair dryer. Try to avoid rubbing or scrubbing your hair, as it can cause both frizz and damage.

Step 2: Apply hair product

Apply your hair product of choice. Whether you’re applying a serum or heat protection spray, apply it to the ends of your hair and try to avoid your roots, as it can make your hair greasy. Not only will the product help protect your hair, it can make it look shinier once dried and styled.

Step 3: Section your hair

Separate your hair into sections. Try to avoid using hair bobbles to do this, as they can easily get tangled. A wide-tooth clip is a better option.

Step 4: Choose the right nozzle and temperature

Depending on the type of hairdryer you have, you may have a selection of nozzles to choose from. A wide nozzle is a great choice if your hair is thin or damaged, as it will minimise the length of time your hair is exposed to heat for.

If you do have damaged or weak hair, you should lower the temperature setting on the hair dryer. As a general guide, test the temperature on the back of your hand and alter until it feels comfortable. You may not have to do this if you have strong hair.

Step 5: Start the blow dry

Using a Tangle Teezer blow-styling tool, blow dry your hair from the roots downwards. Move the brush slowly and smoothly, allowing the hairdryer to follow the movement of the brush. Remember to not let the hair dryer touch the teeth of the brush — it will not make the hair dry any quicker and could cause heat damage. Repeat until the hair is dry.

Once you have fully dried that section, unclip another layer of hair and blow dry in the same way. Afterwards, you can finish your look with a spritz of hairspray or style it however you choose. A proper blow dry is the basis of smooth and sleek styles, so get creative!
