Here’s Why Your Skin Deserves Organic Beauty

Hands up if you’re an organic beauty virgin? I was, until recently when I was fortunate enough to be contacted by Natures Dream to review a few organic beauty products.

I’m all for organic and it’s certainly in my interest in 2018 make more of an effort to understand and use organic products instead of being ignorant of them.

Organic products are everywhere these days and they’re becoming more and more popular. By choosing organic, you have that guarantee that the produce we eat or products don’t contain chemicals that could potentially cause serious health problems in the future.

Since we’re becoming a more health conscious generation, we nourish our bodies with organic food and our skin deserves the same care with organic beauty products too. Many non-organic beauty products on the market today include a scary amount of chemicals that we aren’t even aware of.

What goes on your skin eventually goes in your body. Our skin absorbs 60% of what we put on it! If you lather chemical-filled soaps, lotions and creams over your skin, your body absorbs those toxins. Even worse, many of the chemicals in beauty products have never even been tested, so any potential health problems they can cause are virtually unknown.

It’s so much better for the environment to use organic beauty products too, it’s often easy to forget about the environmental impact of beauty products. Here’s a test, think of your favourite shower gel. Is the packaging recyclable? What about the ingredients in the product? Were they grown with synthetic chemicals and fertilizers? What happens when those chemicals go down the drain? What’s that doing to our water supply and the local ecosystems? Now multiply these questions by all of your skincare products.

Organic beauty products mean that you don’t have to worry about chemicals going down the drain because there won’t be any in the bottle. You can also look for organic beauty brands that obtain their ingredients from Fair Trade sources or from local farms and suppliers.

I received a Pure Face Cleanser & Exfoliating Cloth from Saaf Skincare (£24.99) and Northern Soap for Deep Facial Cleansing from Natura Siberica (£11.99) to try.

Let’s start with Saaf Skincare and the Pure Face Cleanser. Saaf, which means Pure in Persian, was created back in 2004 when Dr Mah, a qualified pharmacologist with a love for natural remedies, decided to try her hand at making her own balms for herself and her family. Ultimately Dr Mah wanted the Saaf range to be effective, luxurious and affordable whilst in line with her belief in purity. Today Saaf products are renowned for their gently caring, deeply nourishing and protective prescriptions. I really liked the product packaging, it certainly strikes me as being luxurious with the chrome gold.

Using rare, organic, cold pressed botanicals and the finest quality steam distilled organic essential oils with scientifically proven healing and anti-ageing properties, Saaf Pure Skincare is one of the world’s most accredited skincare ranges which include:

  • Certified Cruelty Free by Cruelty Free International
  • Approved by The Vegetarian Society
  • Certified Organic by the UK Soil Association
  • Saaf’s Oils & Serums are proudly Vegan Society Registered
  • Saaf’s formulations are fully Halal compliant

The Pure Face Cleanser, winner Of A Silver Medal At The 2013 Free From Skincare Awards, is described as a ‘luxuriously purifying, balancing and soothing face cleanser suitable for all skin types of which gently removes impurities and make-up whilst exfoliating, rejuvenating and moisturising the skin.’ To use the product you are directed to soak the organic face cloth in warm water, then use a generous amount of cleanser onto your face with your fingertips and massage in and then lastly gently wipe off with the face cloth.

I did as I was told and the first thing that stood out to me was the smell of the product. It has a very distinct aromatic smell which reminds me of a spa treatment room, you know the ones that are designed to make you feel relaxed. The organic face cloth feels very soft and is of a good quality, I love the fact you get a face cloth with it! The product itself feels almost like a wax at first but once mixed with water begins to separate become of a thinner consistency which feels lovely on the skin.

I was a little apprehensive as to whether the product would be strong enough to remove my Estee Lauder Double Wear but it was very effective and left my skin glowing. Afterwards, my skin didn’t feel dry which I sometimes often feel after I use a cleanser, therefore, it’s very moisturising. Overall I was very impressed.

Natura Siberica is a brand that originates from Siberia starting up in 2017, and is now available in the UK! Their products offer natural and organic beauty products made with unique ingredients sourced from the unspoilt lands of Siberia. The herbs traditionally used by Siberians for countless years were made into elixirs of health and beauty for the Russian Royal family.

The Northern Soap for Deep Facial Cleansing is described as ‘featuring highly absorbent activated carbon to draw impurities from deep within the skin. Enriched with unique and powerful wild harvested herbs and berries from Northern Siberia, and will leave your skin super clean and sparkling.’ It’s recommended to use this soap twice a week alongside your normal skincare routine. To use this product, you are directed to wet the sponge, apply soap to the sponge then apply to dry skin then lastly rinse your face with warm water until all traces of the soap have been removed.

I applied the soap as instructed. The colour of the product immediately put me off I have to admit but I was pleasantly surprised. Since you’re applying it with the wet sponge it isn’t as thick or dry when you apply as it looks in real life and in this photo. it glides around the skin and then after use leaves your skin feelings cleaner, then clean. Again this product smells very spicy if that makes sense. I really liked this product and have added to my weekly routine.

Rating 8/10

In conclusion, my mind’s been opened to organic beauty and learning about it has prompted me to buy more and try different products. I loved both products and brands, therefore, I will be exploring more of their products. Both brands are incredibly reasonably priced which was a surprise to me as I’d always presumed organic would be more expensive! It’s a yes from me.

Have you tried organic beauty products before?

I’ve found organic products really help my facial eczema. I didn’t actually think being organic would change anything but it really does! These products look really interesting, especially if they don’t leave your skin dry. Thanks for the post! x
