I wish I had the time, every morning before work to apply false lashes. Once I’d mastered the art of application in my teens, it was like an addiction to wear falsies all the time. And, I can’t speak for every gal but when myself and my friends discovered false eyelashes they soon became a necessity for every night out or occasion.
False eyelashes just completely transform your eyes, in my opinion. They’re a fart on 90% of the time though because one might go on perfectly but the other might stick to the edge of your eye and then that results in you having BF! But, I just love the effect it creates for me. They give me so much confidence, and totally open my face up. It’s mental how something so simple can make you feel! I love them. My favourite strip lashes have got to be MAC as they just form to the shape of your eyes and they’re a great quality, lasting at least 10 wears for me!
Not so long ago, I discovered eyelash extensions which last for around 2-3 weeks. They’re an ideal solution for me! I’ve had a couple of not so great experiences with eyelashes extensions but that was until I’d met a great lash technician, Beth.
Eyelash extensions are used to enhance the length, curliness, fullness, and thickness of natural eyelashes. There are three main types of lash extensions: synthetic, silk and mink. Size availability ranges from 6mm to 17mm and once selected, the lashes are applied individually using a specially formulated, semi-permanent glue that will not irritate the eye nor damage the natural lash although it is recommended doing a patch test before application in case of an allergic reaction.
Applying a full set of lashes takes about one to two hours, and can be maintained year-round with touch-ups. Everyone is different so depending on the condition of your natural lashes, lash experts can only go a certain length or thickness, this is to ensure that your own lashes remain in good condition. My friends always ask, can your eyes get glued together?! No! Since your eyes are shut the whole time lash extensions are being applied, no glue will transfer into your eye.
The extensions will naturally fall out over time since each lash extension is attached to a single eyelash, they will fall out naturally along with the natural growth cycle of each lash. BUT, maintenance is key! Lashes can get tousled when you sleep or get them wet, which can make them look untidy. So, it’s important to gently brush your lashes with a clean, disposable mascara wand when you wake up, after you shower, and at the end of the day. Immediately after you’ve had eyelash extensions it’s advised to stay clear from water for the first 12 to 24 hours after application or touch-ups, so no baths or showers!
So now you know all the ins and outs of eyelash extensions, I thought I’d share my experience with my lash technician Beth and what the experience is actually like.
It’s crucial to do research into a good technician as like I said previously, I’ve had a few terrible experiences in the past. I always look at other peoples reviews, photos and into the technician’s background. Beth is a highly trained beautician who specialises in Marvelash semi permeant eyelash extensions and is BABTAC registered (British Association of Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology) so I feel in good hands with her! Beth is based at Volume Hair & Beauty in Sunderland so I headed there last Friday to have a pamper!
Getting your eyelashes done is actually so relaxing and Beth’s beauty room has such a zen atmosphere to it so you feel instantly chilled. On arrival, Beth asked me what kind of look I like when it comes to eyelashes extensions and I choose the more fuller glamorous look, obviously, she assessed my lashes beforehand. I’m quite fortunate to have quite thick and long natural lashes anyway but they’re so straight.
And then it was time to lie down and relax. It’s a really odd, ticklish feeling having them applied. I really liked Beth’s technic, as she was doing them she was brushing them to ensure none were stuck together which has happened for me in the past with other technicians! Beth is also very gentle with your lashes meaning I barely felt a thing. Like I said, the whole thing is very relaxing and Beth is so lovely, she’s the type of person that puts you at ease straight away and feels like an old friend which I think is an important quality for any beautician to have.
After an hour or so Beth was done, and I looked like a princess! I feel in love with my lashes straight away, they are just perfect. They aren’t too long and yet they are so full and fluffy. I was seriously impressed by them, I’d go as far as to say they are the best lashes I’ve ever had. She explained aftercare and when she’d advise coming back for a top up. Most importantly Beth asked whether I liked them, she wanted my opinion which shows she values her work and her customer’s opinions!
The best thing about extensions is that they make everyday eye makeup pretty much unnecessary. They stand in for mascara so to speak and the base of each extension would create the illusion of eyeliner too. It’s great when I have an early morning gym session and look like a goddess without any makeup on! Having lashes on has actually saved time for me on a morning resulting in more time in bed, result! A week later, the lashes Beth has applied are still in tack, looking as full as ever. I can’t recommend her enough! Make sure you check her pages out here and here. Beth has also just trained with the International Beauty Academy in Dermaplanning which I can’t wait to try with her!
